Local lineman set to officially visit Maryland the weekend of Dec. 15

Maryland welcomed a full slate of high school and transfer targets to campus for their first official visit weekend of the offseason, and they’ll welcome another local target to campus next weekend with another name confirmed to officially visit: St. Mary’s Ryken (MD) DL Cam Jones.

Jones, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive lineman, tells IBG that he will officially visit Maryland the weekend of Dec. 15 to give head coach Mike Locksley and the staff a viable chance to reel in a high school lineman in the 2024 class.

The unrated lineman first picked up an offer from Maryland back on July 29 when he and his family made their way to campus for the preseason recruiting event as assistants Kevin Sumlin and Brian Williams kicked off efforts as the area and position recruiter. Maryland stayed consistent with the local lineman through the fall before hosting him once more for the Michigan game with his family on campus once more. Though the Terps did not go in-home with Jones this past week, Maryland was at St. Mary’s Ryken last week as the staff checked in on in-state verbal Davon Watkins, along with Jones.

With offers from Marshall and Toledo, Jones took an official visit to Temple to begin the month but the Terps enter next weekend’s visit with a chance to become the clear-cut leader in his recruitment.

Jones won’t be the only defensive lineman headed to campus as, heading into Sunday, the plan is still for Concordia Prep (MD) four-star lineman Ernest Willor to officially visit Maryland before announcing his commitment during the early signing period. Willor kicked off the month of December with an official visit to Wisconsin before canceling plans for an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.

Meanwhile, Maryland is still in search of its first defensive lineman commit of the cycle, though the haul along the offensive line provides positional versatility for the incoming class.

Jones is not yet rated by On3.
