Local Four-Star Visiting Maryland

Maryland football has kicked off fall camp, but Maryland basketball has a key visitor on campus as well.

New IMG Academy (FL) transfer Jamie Kaiser is visiting Maryland today with his father, a source tells Inside the Black and Gold. Kaiser is one week removed from his official visit to Indiana and with other schools like Auburn and Oregon looking to make a push, Willard and company will get a chance to roll out the red carpet once more.

Originally planning to make a commitment in late June or early July, Kaiser opted to hold off after new schools made a push through the live periods this summer. UCLA was one school that jumped into the mix and was close to getting him on campus while out west for last month’s 3SSB Tournament in Los Angeles, but Kaiser’s schedule and training made it tough to fit the visit in. With UCLA still a possibility to receive a visit if Kaiser opts to prolong his recruitment, Willard will get another chance to pitch Kaiser’s fit in Maryland’s style of play while addressing any potential concerns with his stance on the Terps.

“Coach [Kevin] Willard likes guys who, late in the shot clock, get a bucket and find a way to score. I feel that’s the best part of my game, just creating my own shot,” he said last month. “I’m always going to play hard and intense on the defensive end. They didn’t really have too many questions about that because that’s one of the biggest parts of my game.”

Maryland hosted Kaiser on a one-day official visit back in early June after the former longtime football target held the Terps in high regard.

“I went in there not knowing how I’d feel about it just because basketball is different than football, I didn’t know how high I’d be on their board but after yesterday, they’re definitely up there and I didn’t expect it to happen, to be honest,” Kaiser said after his official. “But when they said they needed me and that they really wanted to bring the homegrown talent here and they couldn’t succeed without me, I got really excited. I really like them up there.”

Kaiser is expected to move into IMG Academy on August 21, making today’s visit likely his last of the summer.

Kaiser is rated a four-star prospect and a 95 overall by On3, sitting as the 37th-best prospect in the country.
