Justin Okoronkwo backs off Maryland football commitment

Maryland football’s first pledge of the 2024 cycle is now back on the open market after German linebacker Justin Okoronkwo announced his decommitment from Maryland.

“After time thinking, and multiple discussions with my Family & Coaches, i would like to announce my decommitment from The University of Maryland,” Okoronkwo wrote on Twitter.

Okoronkwo blew up on the camp circuit through June with offers from South Carolina and Nebraska with Alabama in heavy pursuit. The Crimson Tide will host Okoronkwo at the end of the month, but Maryland hosted the German standout for an official visit the weekend of June 23 for his second visit to campus.

With Okoronkwo back off his pledge, Maryland is now down to 14 commits in the 2024 class. The Terps now have two inside linebacker commits in the fold in Keyari James and Keyshawn Flowers as inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson restocks the room.
