Jahmir Young leads the way for Maryland in All-Big Ten selections

Star Maryland guard Jahmir Young is officially a first-team All-Big Ten selection.

Young (media) was named a first-team selection alongside Marcus Domask (coaches), Braden Smith (coaches/media), Terrence Shannon Jr (coaches/media), Boo Buie (coaches/media) and Zach Edey (coaches/media). Young made second-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches.

Young finished the regular season averaging 20.8 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per game. He remains the only active NCAA player with 2,000+ points, 700+ rebounds, and 400+ assists after being the alpha dog for the Terps in his second and final season with the program. Young became the fifth Terp to reach 1,000 points in two seasons and is the sixth player since 2006 to break 1,000 points at two different schools.

Young also ranks second nationally in ‘clutch’ points, which are calculated by points scored within the final six minutes of games, while scoring over 24 points per game in his last ten road games. Young’s three 30-point games on the road are tied for the second-most alongside Len Bias and Greivis Vasquez and behind Walt Williams. He also became the first Terp to average over 20 points, four rebounds and four assists since Greivis Vasquez’s senior season.

Young was also among the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honorees, the conference announced on Tuesday.

DeShawn Harris-Smith had a disappointing one in College Park, but the former four-star found himself named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. He averaged 7.1 points, 2.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 37.3% from the field and under 60% from the free-throw line.

Julian Reese, who missed the season finale, was named an honorable mention all-conference selection for the second time in his career. The Baltimore native enters the conference tournament with 15 double-doubles this season, good for second-most in the conference and ninth-most nationally. Reese is currently the only D1 player and second Big Ten player in the last 25 years to average ten points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and one steal per game this season.

Donta Scott also ends his Maryland career as a two-time honorable mention selection, though Scott was only recognized by the coaches. The Philly native moved into the top five in program history in three-pointers made and holds the program record for games played as a Terp.

Both Young and Reese were named to the All-Big Ten Preseason Team, marking the first time that Maryland had a pair of players on the preseason list since 2019-20 when Anthony Cowan Jr. and Jalen Smith achieved the feat.
