Highland Springs DB Brennan Johnson talks Maryland OV highlight, next steps

Highland Springs (VA) three-star Brennan Johnson was slated to kick off June with an official visit to Maryland, but the 6-foot, 201-pound safety target ended up closing out the month with a trip to College Park for an official visit he said was “everything I hoped for it to be.”

“With my meetings with coach Locks and coach Spav, I got all my questions answered. Me and coach Spav sat down for maybe two hours, watched film of the different safeties. I can see how I fit into the scheme so it was perfect.”

Johnson projects to fit into the role now filled by Glen Miller after Beau Brade departed for the NFL. “Basically the boundary safety and star position, they’re looking at those two positions depending [on] how big I get.”

Though he wasn’t the player host, former teammate and recent enrollee Khristian Martin was with Johnson “everywhere I went. It was good just being around him,” he added. Johnson got similar vibes from Daniel Wingate, who did fill in as his player host, after spending the weekend in College Park. “He was very similar to Khristian [Martin]. Everybody was one big happy family.”

Johnson looks to major in real estate in college and the non-football side of the official visit resonated with the Virginia target. “I can definitely picture myself there with the degree I want to major in. A lot of things that coach Spav offered, he’s very big on internships, life after football and being known as someone who doesn’t just play football.”

Whether Johnson shifts to decision mode remains to be seen as he contemplates one more visit heading into next month.

“In July, South Carolina wants me to come down. I haven’t really made a decision on that but it’s a possibility. I’m talking with my family, see what the schools have to offer and making a pros and cons list then hopefully I can make a decision before the season starts.”

Brennan Johnson is not yet rated by On3 but is rated a three-star and 87 overall by 247Sports.
