Georgia DB TyShun White feels hospitality during official visit to Maryland

Maryland was the latest school to offer Buford (GA) three-star defensive back TyShun White, but the consistency from new safeties coach Zac Spavital is what helped convince the 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety target to make his way to Maryland. After just over one month of contact, White followed through with an official visit where the Terps got their crack at the Georgia product over the weekend.

“Maryland was good. Seeing the campus and the coaches, coach Locksley and stuff like that and just getting up here was really cool,” White told IBG. “That was my first time talking to coach [Mike] Locksley so getting to know him, going to his house, he’s a real chill guy. He just really want me to see what the life was like and get the players’ perspective. Coaches can tell you anything but how the players feel about the school is different so that was very important. He really wanted me to see that and that was important.”

Redshirt sophomore defensive back Chantz Harley served as White’s host through the weekend while the chance to get one-on-one time with Spavital paid off. “They just got that new safeties coach. the old coach left and went to Ole Miss and when coach Spav got there, he started reaching out and it wasn’t too late for me. So it was just good getting up there and seeing everything for myself.” The player feedback also checked out. “[Harley] said he loved it up there and the coaches are real genuine.”

What was the main message?

“I fit the program on and off the field and they can get me to where I want to go. Maryland is definitely up there. I have a couple of other visits because I go to Michigan State next week, but Maryland is definitely up there for sure.”

North Carolina held the edge coming out of last weekend while the Spartans’ upcoming official visit is expected to be the final visit prior to a July decision.

White is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, checking in as the 71st-best prospect in Georgia.
