Future Terps in Action: Week One

Maryland had a good number of commits that were in action this week. Most of them had their first game of the season. Let’s take a look at how they fared in their games.

  • Taylor County (GA) CB Kevis Thomas: Thomas made an impact on the offensive side of the ball for Lowndes in their 33-0 win over Gadsden County. He carried the ball four times for 39 yards, caught two passes for 54 yards, and scored a touchdown. Lowndes is now 1-1 with their next game coming against North Miami Beach.
  • Bergen Catholic (NJ) DE DJ Samuels: Bergen Catholic started its season with a 49-14 win over Cardinal Gibbons. Samuels had two rushing touchdowns in the game. Bergen Catholic faces Saguaro next.
  • SFA (MD) WR Ryan Manning: St. Frances defeated East St. Louis 20-13 to start off the season 1-0. Manning caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter to help give the Panthers the lead. The Panthers are hoping for a National Championship this year and got off to the right start on their quest. St. Frances continues its road to national champions with DeSoto.
  • Southern Columbia WR Braeden Wisloski: Southern Columbia won its game against Berwick 42-27 after a huge second half. Down 14-0 through the first half, Southern Columbia dominated the rest of the way as Wisloski carried the ball seven times for 133 yards and three touchdowns. Southern Columbia faces Shamokin Area next week.
  • Jones (FL) TE/DE Dylan Wade, WR Derrick Rogers: Wade made an impact in both the rushing and receiving game in Jones’ 29-19 win over Cocoa. He caught three passes for 27 yards and carried the ball three times for 47 yards. Wade has a desire to play along the defensive line at the next level as Maryland still likes him on the offensive side. Rogers, meanwhile, had one catch for zero yards. Wade also lost a fumble. Jones takes on Duncanville next.
  • St. Peter’s Prep (NJ) QB Robert Long: Long completed 17 of 27 passes for 260 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in St. Peters’ 41-7 win over St. Augustine. They face off against St. Joseph’s next.
  • Brother Rice (MI) Nolan Ray: Brother Rice lost 21-7 to Dakota in their first game of the season. Ray did not play in the game due to an injury. They take on East Kentwood next.
  • Chaminade-Madonna (FL) OL Deandre Duffus: Chaminade-Madonna held off a late comeback by St. John’s to win 35-28.
  • St. John’s (DC) WR Sean Williams: St. Johns couldn’t overcome a 28-7 halftime deficit against Chaminade-Madonna.
  • Loyola Blakefield (MD) TE AJ Szymanski: Loyola Blakefield won its game against Archbishop Curley 16-7.
  • Madison County (FL) CB Jonathan Atkins: Madison County won a high-scoring game against Carrollwood Day 40-33.
  • McDonogh (MD) OL Tamarus Walker: McDonogh won its game against Mt. Zion Prep Academy 21-2.  Walker lined up at right guard and as a defensive tackle during the game. McDonogh takes on Gonzaga next.
