Four-Star Forward Returning to College Park

Sidwell Friends (DC) four-star forward Caleb Williams has been sidelined the last week with a knee injury as he awaits MRI results to determine the severity of the injury, but he was able to kick off his junior season to help his team start 6-1. After defeating Landon 46-43 back on the afternoon of December 2, the 6-foot-7 forward made the trip to College Park where he was able to take in Maryland’s Big Ten opening win against Illinois.

The first thing he took note of? The environment. “It was a really good environment. It was really good to embrace the environment and see it first hand, see it as a recruit,” Williams told Inside the Black and Gold. “I’ve been to a lot of Maryland games but that was different. It was something memorable. I think being at the game as a recruit and thinking of playing that definitely got me excited about Maryland.” Williams arrived just prior to tipoff but stayed for the full game where he was able to get a behind the scenes and some facetime with the coaching staff.

“[David Cox] actually brought us back into the locker room so we got to see what that was like. Talked to him, coach [Kevin] Willard coach [Tony] Skinn for a little bit. We were actually watching the Illinois press conference and seeing what the media had to say about the game. We had talked about the game I had just played too, just catching up.” Williams was also energized by Maryland’s pace of pay. “I definitely love what they’re doing. The team is going well, coach Willard has them playing well and I’m excited to see how they do under coach Willard.” Cox is leading Williams’s recruitment but he isn’t the only coach reaching out.

“It’s definitely going well. Coach Willard is one of the few head coaches that consistently reaches out. He’s been consistent, coach Cox has been consistent.” While he’s unsure where else he may visit in the coming weeks, Williams knows he’ll be back in College Park this week.

“I think I’m going to be there for the UCLA game.”

Williams is rated a four-star prospect and a 92 overall by On3, sitting as the 80th-best prospect in the country.
