Former Elon lineman Michael Purcell transferring to Maryland

Maryland landed a big piece along the offensive line today as former Elon lineman Michael Purcell has announced his transfer.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman and Centerville native unofficially visited Maryland last week before picking up the offer and fresh off another visit this weekend, Purcell announced his decision to transfer to Maryland. Purcell originally entered the transfer portal and transferred to Duke back in January, but was among a flurry of other portal lineman to reenter the portal once again.

Purcell also gives Maryland an experienced piece to anchor the offensive line with having started in 32 games through his career. The veteran lineman gives Maryland a viable piece to replace Coltin Deery at center, paving the way for one more spot open along the offensive line to replace Mason Lunsford’s spot at left guard.

Purcell was among an experienced Elon offensive line that paved the way for 120-plus yards in all but one game last season, while also allowing the second-fewest sacks per game in the CAA.

Maryland also returns DJ Glaze next season while both Corey Bullock and Gottlieb Ayedze, two more portal linemen, step into starting roles next season.
