Florida DL talks relationship, summer official visit to Maryland

The dead period is still in effect for college football recruiting, but the bulk of the 2025 class has started to begin mapping out their visit schedules with spring football around the corner and official visit season inching closer. While a host of local athletes have visits planned or in the works for Maryland beginning in early April, Mainland (FL) defensive lineman Christian Hudson set up his first official visit.

Hudson, a 6-foot, 260-pound lineman out of Daytona Beach, says he is set to take his official visit to Maryland beginning June 13. Outside linebackers coach James Thomas has led the way into the spring after Maryland made the trek through his school almost exactly one month ago to extend a verbal offer. That familiarity with the program, followed by the consistency from Thomas, has comfortably put the Terps in Hudson’s top group.

“I talked to my old teammate, E’Ziah Shine, he was saying he loved it up there,” Hudson told IBG. “I wanted to set up Maryland first mainly because it was one of the first schools to reach out and they’ve been recruiting me for a while. Before they checked in and offered me they sat high on my list.”

The area ties between Hudson and Thomas have given the two a chance to build on their early relationship. “He connected me with where he’s from, just getting to know me. They’re doing a great job. That’s why they stick out the most.”

Iowa, Indiana, West Virginia, Louisville, Pitt and UCF have all extended offers through his junior year while Hudson added that Iowa State has been consistent heading into March, though Hudson added the Terps’ pursuit has been a step above the rest of the field so far.

“A few other schools have been recruiting me hard but Maryland is definitely up there. I can definitely tell Maryland is making me one of their top priorities.”

Hudson will do shotput in the spring after beginning his track and field career during his freshman year. After lining up on both sides of the trenches during his junior season that ended in a state championship, Hudson posted nine sacks, 23 TFLs, eight QB pressures and 70 tackles.

Christian Hudson is not yet rated by On3 but is a three-star and 89 overall by 247.
