This weekend marked the second visit to Maryland for 2025 South Sumter (FL) safety Rashad Johnson. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound junior made his to campus back in April alongside current verbal Brandon Jacob along others, but this weekend gave him a game where the secondary stuck out to him before reconnecting with the coaching staff.
“I like that. they’ve got some dogs. I like their secondary. Number two and number 12, they’re like that. The coaches were saying they could get drafted next year,” Johnson told IBG.
Outside linebacker coach James Thomas has led the way with the three-star target and having Jacob, who plays 7-on-7 with Johnson, in the fold gives him a positive impression of the program.
“JT is from where I’m from so he knows how it is, so we’re just on the same page with a lot of stuff. He’s real easy to get along with,” Johnson added. “I knew Brandon was gonna go to Maryland. I thought it was either Maryland or Miami (FL), but he always talked about Maryland.”
Johnson got a chance to tour Jones-Hill House once more before eventually making his way into SECU Stadium, but there was one aspect about the Terps’ facilities that stuck out above the rest.
“They showed me the weight room, how they set up the nutrient station. Say you’re losing weight and you’re trying to get back up. They scan your body and tell you what you need to eat, then they can get a specific meal for you to get your body right. That was really cool.”
Alabama, FAU, FIU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Miami (FL), Penn State and UCF are among the other schools in pursuit of Johnson with his junior year winding down, but with Brandon Jacob headed to College Park next year, Johnson expects to return to campus in the spring.
Rashad Johnson is not yet rated by On3, but is a three-star and an 87 overall by 247.
