Derik Queen no longer expected to announce during the early signing period

Maryland basketball fans were awaiting the commitment date for priority target Derik Queen to be set once the early signing period began on Wednesday, but that now won’t be the case as Queen is now no longer expected to sign during the early signing period. Travis Branham was first to report the news.

Queen released a top four with Indiana, Houston, Kansas and Maryland still in the mix with all the buzz centered around the Terps and Hoosiers down the stretch. Indiana was the second school to host him for an official visit this fall, marking his second official to Bloomington as head coach Mike Woodson remains active with the Montverde forward.

Houston hosted Queen for an official visit the first weekend of October and has strong ties to Team Thrill as they’ve made their push through the summer. Maryland, meanwhile, was the final school to host the top-25 prospect as he and his mom made their way to campus the weekend of October 20 as the Terps rolled out the red carpet once again.

After a month of missing on Jaeden Mustaf, Matthew Hodge, Boogie Fland and Khani Rooths, Maryland was looking to Queen to potentially be the firework in the 2024 class as the two-year pursuit was expected to come to a close this week. Now, Maryland will have to remain patient into the spring as they hope to add their first commitment in the 2024 class.

Queen is rated a four-star prospect and a 97 overall by On3, sitting as the 23rd-best prospect in the nation.
