After unofficial, local lineman sets official visit to Maryland

Maryland is no stranger to three-star tackle Mike Williams, so it was no surprise that the 6-foot-5, 310-pound tackle made the short trip to campus once the dead period wrapped up on Wednesday.

The latest trip marks “the sixth or seventh” visit to College Park for Williams as he got a chance to sit down with each coach involved in his recruitment. “Talked to coach [Mike] Locks then had a position meeting with coach [Brian] Braswell, talked with coach [Elijah] Brooks.” The lengthy sit down with Williams centered around the need to keep local lineman home and with tackles always a top target for the Terps, Locksley reiterated where Williams stands on the board.

“I have a committable offer if I want to go there. He likes the way I transitioned my body, likes the way that I move and he just wants to get me back on campus and build a stronger relationship with him.” The relationship between the two dates back to when Williams transferred into Rock Creek and remained strong through his transfers to St. Frances then Flowers. “I see coach Locksley, outside of being the head coach, just another person who wants to win in life. He offered me a long time ago, the summer after my freshman year, so I know him differently and for a little longer.”

After going over scheme with Braswell, Williams then sat down with Elijah Brooks where the staff was able to move the needle. “Coach Brooks went over the next time I’ll be visiting and then went over my schedule.”

That will be June 23, which Williams says is a set official visit to Maryland. “I don’t have questions going into it. I’ve been up there so much, so just seeing them and the people really.”

Prior to official visit season, Williams has a busy spring ahead of him and he’ll hit the road on Friday.

“I go to Miami Friday. Michigan State next week, Tennessee the following week then South Carolina and USC.”

Williams is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, sitting as the 35th-best prospect in Maryland.
